I read the secret service agent's account; it was a little disturbing; first, because he seems to suggest that RFK's assassination was somehow avoidable if he'd used "more professional" protection on the fateful night, but then he mentions only Rosey Grier and Rafer Johnson; he didn't even mention retired FBI agent Bill Barry, who was a full time staffer for the campaign. Secondly, while everyone handles his/her sense of loss differently, the agent's recollections seemed utterly devoid of any passion for the man or what he stood for whatsoever. What a shame.
And I was under the impression that it was not his campaign that turned down LAPD protection but that it was refused by Mayor Yorty. Yes, I got the feeling he was very Joe Friday.. "Just the facts, ma'am"
Yes, "Mayor Sam" was (IMO) a weasel. After he left office, he "hosted" a really obnoxious local TV show ("the Sam Yorty Show") that bore a striking resemblance to some of the ick one associates with Jerry Springer - including a chanting audience which would heap accolades on the show's producer, a really right-wing Orange County guy named Wally George.

Thank you for the new links but I think you accidentally posted the same link for the 3rd and 4th article.
